Christians of Rwanyena Centre in Our Lady of Assumption Rwanyena Parish yesterday celebrated the Solemnity of the Blessed Trinity by raising funds towards the completion of the Parish Church. The function was held at Rwanyena Parish Church with Mass presided over by Rev. Fr. Martin Nkurunziza, curate Rwanyena Parish and assisted by Fr. Boniface Barisigara and Fr. Deus Musinguzi the Parish Priest..
Preaching during Mass, Fr. Deus Musinguzi said that Catholics celebrate this day on daily basis though unknowingly because all liturgical action in the Catholic Church starts with the sign of the Cross, a reflection of the Trinity. All prayer starts and ends with Trinitarian formula. He said that the persons of the Trinity manifest themselves one different from the other in the works. God the father is regarded as the Creator, God the son is regarded as redeemer and God the Holy Spirit is regarded as the sanctifier. Fr. Deus said God the Father redeemed his people from the slavery of Pharaoh in Egypt. God the Son redeemed the people from the slavery of sin. God the Holy Spirit sanctifies the people everyday and renews the life of grace in them. He said that it is this grace of God in us that moves us to do good, hence putting our faith into action. He invited the parishioners of Rwanyena and all the people of God wherever they are to put their faith in action by raising funds to build God’s house, for faith without action is dead.
In his remarks, Mr. Biryomumeisho Onesmus, Chairman Rwanyena Greater Centre appreciated the parish administration of Rwanyena Parish led by Fr. Deus Musinguzi for the hard work and cooperation exhibited towards the development of Rwanyena Parish. He appreciated Fr. Boniface Barisigara whose proceedings from the Priestly Silver jubilee celebrations in 2022 went to the completion of the parish church. He informed the people gathered that the fundraising was intended to raise funds in order to put terrazzo on the floor of the church costing 111m. After terrazzo, the other phase will be plastering and painting the church, followed by fixing glasses and finally new pews (seats).
The fundraising function held yesterday raised 15m of which slightly over 6m cash came from Rev. Fr. Deus Musinguzi, the Parish Priest through the friends and supporters of Rwanyena Parish. The guest of honor contributed 200 bags of cement. For the same project, Hon. Catherine Ndamira Atwakiire, the Kabale District Woman MP and Hon. Wilfred Niwagaba, MP for Ndorwa East each contributed 100 bags. Shortly before the fundraising, Rwanyena Greater Center and other contributions had raised over 28m, thus bringing the total collection to 43 million and 400 bags of cement.
Canon. Enock Kazooba, the Mayor for Ryakarimira Town Council appreciated people’s efforts in building God’s kingdom by supporting the construction of Rwanyena Parish Church. He said that there are some people who do not work yet they want to eat and he urged them to work for themselves and earn a living. He also noted that as schools open for second term, parents should endeavor to send their children to school.
Speaking as Guest of Honor, Hon Minister David Bahati, MP Ndorwa County West, represented by Godfrey Nyakahuma, RDC Kabale district thanked the parish priest and parish administration for the good work done for the people of God in Rwanyena Parish, and thanked him for inviting him to be the Guest of Honor.
Fr. Deus is so developmental and my first time to interact with him while at Rwanyena is when he was starting Assumption Vocational Secondary School Rwanyena and I am happy that the school is doing well – Godfrey Nyakahuma, RDC Kabale District.
Hon. Bahati thanked the Catholics of Rwanyena for the efforts to have a respectable house for the Lord. He urged them to continue engaging in government programs like Youth Livelihood Program (YLP), Parish Development Model (PDM) among others in order to boost their household income. Hon. Bahati requested the people of Ndorwa West to keep working together in love, for the development of their constituency and contributed 200 bags of cement towards the terrazzo project.
Fr. Deus Musinguzi once again thanked all the people of God who contributed towards the construction of the parish church. He thanked Hon. David Bahati, represented by RDC Godfrey Nyakahuma for the contribution and support he always gives to Rwanyena Parish. He urged the people to always work hard and fend for their families, most especially men who should take a lead in taking their families to greater heights in terms of development. He thanked the Catechists of Rwanyena parish for the good work done in mobilization for the development of their parish. He appealed for support from the people of good will towards completion of the church so that it is ready for official use after inauguration and opening.
