After performing the miracle of healing the boy, Jesus Christ pronounces His betrayal. This was not understood by his apostles and indeed the crowds too could not have understood it.
The apostles did not understand what Jesus Christ said because they were concerned about the worldly Kingdom. They wanted to rule with Him and be His ministers. Jesus, according to them, could not be betrayed, suffer and die.
Peoples’ admiration of the miracles that Jesus Christ performed would ensure a certain popularity of the apostles in the government established by Jesus Christ. To correct this way of thinking, Jesus Christ points to His betrayal.
The worst part of the betrayal was that Jesus was betrayed by one of His own apostles. This hits hardest when Jesus Christ Himself says, “But see, the one who betrays me is with me, and his hand is on the table.” (Luke 22:21)
In our time, the betrayal of Christ is still going on. Judas Iscariot exchanged Jesus Christ and got 30 silver pieces. Whenever a Christian lets anything or anyone take the priority in his or her own life, then it is likely that there is a form of betrayal.
Will you also betray Jesus?
