Kabale Diocese has embarked on carrying out corporal works of Mercy to the sick and prisoners as part of celebration of the Jubilee Year. On March 8, 2025, Kabale Diocese, through Rubanda Deanery, distributed food items to Rubanda District Hospitals and Prison. The beneficiaries of this food relief included Muko Health Centre IV, Rubanda Government Prisons, and Rubanda Primary Health Care.

Each health facility and prison received bags of posho, rice, soap, millet flour and salt. The distribution exercise began with sacrifice of Mass at Muko Health Center IV, followed by the distribution of food items to all the patients present in the facility day. The team then proceeded to Rubanda Government Prisons and concluded at Rubanda Health Care.
Namirembe Juliet, assistant incharge maternity for Muko Health Center IV and Sister Eustinah Twebembere, Facility Administrator for Rubanda Primary Health Care commended Kabale Diocese for the food relief donation. They noted with excitement that International Women’s Day was celebrated with joy at the facilities since a number of patients nothing to facilitate their feeding.

While at Rubanda government prison, the OC Station Zakia thanked Kabale Diocese for special consideration to visit the prisons and share the word of God with prisoners and also give them hope. She also welcomed the donation items and requested for a spiritual leader to always visit them on weekly basis since they are also people of God who need spiritual services.
Fr. Ireneus Tibemanya, the Parish Priest of Kishanje Parish and Dean for Rubanda Deanery said that in unity with the whole Diocese of Kabale, the reason for carrying out this charity exercise among the less privileged in Rubanda Deanery and subsequently other Deaneries is to fulfill the objectives of the Jubilee Year 2025 as declared by Pope Francis, a jubilee year which is always observed in the Catholic Church after every 25 years. He thanked all the people of God in Rubanda Deanery who contributed towards raising of the items to distribute among the sick and the prisoners.
This is one of the activities we have decided to carry out in the jubilee year, It is actually an activity preceding the many more coming activities including Opening of Principal Doors of Deanery Churches, Pilgrimage to Kibeho in Rwanda, Namugongo in Kampala and Rome in Italy among others – Fr. Ireneus Tibemanya, Dean Rubanda Deanery.
Rev. Fr. Fidel Ndagijimana, the Pastoral Coordinator for Kabale Diocese disclosed plans to extend the food relief to other deaneries in Kabale Diocese. This exercise is part of Kabale Diocese’s participation in the Corporal Works of Mercy during the Jubilee Year 2025. He urged all the people of God to continue extending a helping hand to those in need as this is a fulfillment of Jesus’ teaching in the Gospel of Matthew 25:31-46. He wished all the people blessings of the Jubilee and fruitful lenten season.
