Kabale Diocese has donated two bulls and 400kgs of rice to inmates at Ndorwa government prison in Kabale district so that inmates can celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ on Easter Sunday. The donation was on Saturday morning of April 19, 2025 handed over to the Prison Administration headed by the Superintendent of Prisons, OC Julius Kisembo.

The donation exercise was led by Rev. Fr. Fred Birungi, the Parish Priest of Christ the King Parish Kabale and Dean of Rushoroza Deanery, along with Mr. Tumukwasiibwe Nicodemus Odo, the head of laity for Kabale Diocese and Mr. Cyril Mugyenyi, a renowned businessman in Kabale Town.
While delivering the items on behalf of Bishop Callist Rubaramira and the Diocese in general, Rev. Fr. Fred Birungi explained that the gesture was a sign of unity and love for the inmates, especially during Easter, a time they cannot celebrate with their families.
We have given them two bulls and 150kg of rice and when had given them 250kg at the start of April. This has been done to show solidarity with our brothers and sister in Ndorwa prison who are unable to celebrate with their families. It’s a sign that they are not neglected and that the church thinks about them – Fr. Fred Birungi.
Fr. Birungi said the donation is done annually by Kabale Diocese to the Ndorwa prison inmates as a way to give hope to the inmates and enable them celebrate Easter festivities with joy.

Mr. Tumukwasiibwe Nicodemus Odo, the chairperson Laity for Kabale Diocese said the donation makes the inmates feel part of the community and bring them hope in life despite challenges. He also encouraged Christians to always make acts of charity especially to the prisoners because every living person is a potential candidate of the prisons. He also urged Christians to desist from acts that end up taking them to prison.
OC Kisembo Julius commended Kabale Diocese under the leadership of Bishop Callist Rubaramira for their usual donations to the facility’s inmates saying it has always brought hope and joy to the inmates to celebrate Easter, though without their families..
He added that the Diocese has been giving the inmates one bull every Easter festival but this time, they received two bulls, something unusual, which called for much appreciation and gratitude. This act by the Diocese instills faith and hope in the inmates who know there there are some people with think about them.
Every year Kabale Diocese donates foodstuff to inmates of Ndorwa prisons to celebrate Easter and Christmas together.
